“I took along my new purchases from Ann Summers with a few items of my own. I was very nervous! The greeting I received was very warm and friendly and I became more and more relaxed”
I had thought about having the Kensa Boudoir experience for a while, a kind of ‘last chance saloon’ I thought! My situation had never allowed me to indulge in something just for me. I’d been bringing up three sons (now grown up) mostly on my own, plus caring full time for my elderly mum. I really couldn’t justify doing something for myself, nor did I ever have the time. I’ve also had some health issues and had to go into hospital for surgery earlier this year.
This last year has been the end of my old life and the beginning of a new one, I have had to totally reorganise myself and am still in the process. In the last few years I have dealt with not only my own grief but that of my Mother too, she was so traumatised by the death of my two eldest brothers within two years of each other and found it hard to accept. She was also very unwell herself but determined to remain as independent as possible. Finally, I lost my lovely Mum last August aged 97 and having cared for her full time, I was lost. I’d met my present partner 6 months previous to this, he was, and still is my rock.
I noticed a competition on Facebook a few months ago and thought ‘What have I got to lose?’ It was a Kensa Boudoir photo shoot with a £50 voucher for Ann Summers. Soon after I received a message telling me I was one of the winners!!
With no confidence and feeling like the Grandmother I am, I made an appointment at Ann Summers. Went along and was made to feel very comfortable trying on various garments that I probably would have run away from trying before!
Next step was the photoshoot. I took along my new purchases from Ann Summers with a few items of my own. I was very nervous! The greeting I received was very warm and friendly and I became more and more relaxed. Had my make-up applied and my hair done. Karen helped me select items to wear, discussed if I’d had anything in particular in mind and we went ahead with the shoot, with several changes in clothes. I felt comfortable and relaxed. I was made to feel like the star of the show!
The photos… when I saw them I was blown away!! I mean… does this look like a Grandmother fast approaching 60?! I thought I was past it, just goes to show, no-one is ever too old!
